Entrusted by Heaven

There has been a subtle change to the Montana Billings blog.  In order to help us remember our theme for the year and the purpose of missionary work, we decided to change the title of this blog to "Entrusted by Heaven".  We are truly about a great work and have all of heaven on our side as long as we are living faithful to the commandments, mission rules, and the promptings of the Spirit.

What exactly does it mean to be "entrusted by heaven"?  Elder Ives said, "It means we stand as an absolute proxy for Jesus Christ.  Our Savior entrusts us and our Heavenly Father entrusts us to hold His name sacred."  As we go about each day, we bear two names on our tag; that of our own and that of Jesus Christ.  We have all promised to take the Savior's name upon us and to stand as a witness for him at all times and in all things and in all places that we may be in.

To Sister Karlinsey, entrusted by heaven means that "Heavenly Father trusts us to do what is right."  There are a lot of different paths we can take, but only one road leads to true joy and peace.  That road is through our Savior Jesus Christ, the gospel, and obedience to God's commandments.

Elder Cassaro and Elder Murillo shared what their thoughts of entrusted by heaven are and how it relates to missionary work.  Elder Cassaro said, "Entrusted by Heaven means that we have been trusted by all of the host of heaven to preach the gospel, to administer in the ordinances thereof, and to be effective tools and instruments in the hands of the Lord."  Elder Murillo's thoughts have a similar theme to them.  Said he, "We need to do our best with the opportunities we have to teach, find, and baptize people."  We are tools in our Heavenly Father's hands to help bring about His great and marvelous work.  As we continue to strive and do our best, we will be able to help our brothers and sisters in their learning of the gospel.

Everyone has different thoughts of what entrusted by heaven means to them; leave a comment on what it means to you.

  1. When one is entrusted he is given something to share and safeguard it. Think of the parable of the talents taught by the Savior when thinking of the word, "entrusted." As missionaries we have been entrusted with the task of sharing the Gospel. We are expected to make sure we do not diminish what it contains by withholding it from others but rather to share it with others; allowing its value to be appreciated by more people than just ourselves.

One of the General Authorities in the April 2011 session of General Conference declared that “missionary work is the lifeblood of the church.” As we reach out to more people then ever, through the use of online proselyting, we are entrusted to bring life to more people than ever before; even eternal life through the restored gospel. We have been entrusted to strengthen the Lord’s Kingdom on earth in ways that has never been known to man before and we are expected to do it with integrity and honor.
